I’m reading profiles again for a piece I’m writing about Allison Whittenberg and stumbled across this great one published in Jim Blasingame’s article, *“From Wellpinit to Reardan: Sherman Alexie’s Journey to the National Book Award” (**The ALAN Review, Winter 2008, p. 72). Here’s the quote from Alexie that I want to remember:
"When you speak of culture, if you make an analogy with the heart, it’s dangerous to think that you have to be monogamous. Instead, you need to be able to fall in love quickly and easily with other cultures."
* Reading the article was nice too because Whittenberg told me Alexie was one of the young adult writers she likes.
**Ask me about ALAN membership.
