Pecan Pie Baby by Jacqueline Woodson

Pecan Pie Baby has all of the characteristics I enjoy in a picture book by Woodson:

~warm, likeable characters (Gia is worried that her relationship with Mama might be ruined by the “ding-dang baby”.)

~reflection of society (Mama appears single, and she is helped by numerous extended family members.)

~themes of love, cooperation, and community building (The entire family is looking forward to the baby’s arrival. Mama emphasizes to Gia that she and the baby need her.)

My nephew might like this book since we have a baby on the way. I think I’ll call him and tell him all about it.
