Writing Tip from Roy Peter Clark

The writing isn’t flowing at your desk or in Starbucks? Find another spot.

“Every writer needs about a half-dozen places to work.”

(Roy Peter Clark qtd. in Help! for Writers, p. 179)

As quiet as it’s kept, there have been times when I’ve had to lock myself in the car so I could focus on writing. When I worked on Young Adult Literature: Exploration, Evaluation and Appreciation, (2nd ed.), I got into the car often, I turned NPR off, munched on grapes (OK, it was probably fries), and got to work.

Crazy, I know, but my chapters of the book were done on time.
