ALAN (Assembly on Literature for Adolescents)

If you love young adult literature like I do, join ALAN (Assembly on Literature for Adolescents). It meets during NCTE in November. $20.00 per year (half price for students) gets you three issues of The ALAN Review. Visit the ALAN Website http://www.alan-ya.org and download a membership form [http://www.alan-ya.org/membership.doc].  I love the articles. I've published an article or two in the journal about Angela Johnson's work. Recently, I published one in the journal about Sharon M. Draper's Copper Sun. Copper Sun could be used as a bridge to Toni Morrison's Beloved. Am I going too far here? Would the bridge between Copper Sun  and Beloved be too long for a student, a reluctant reader maybe, to travel over?
