In the car after Z participates in a dodge ball tournament.
K: What’s for homework?
Z: Science and that poem.
K: Oh.
Z: I don’t want to do it.
K: Do what? The poem or the topic?
Z: Both. I hate to sound like a nonenvironmentalist, but I don’t care about the Lynnhaven River.
K: Oh, Za’id, what about the people who get their water from there? (K has no idea how the water in the LR is actually used.)
Z: OK. (Z puts his head down in shame.)
K: Instead of asking you all to write a poem, the teacher should have had you go out to the river and pick up trash.
Z: Uh, I’d rather write the poem.
