Reading Nicholasa Mohr

I remember reading Felita by Nicholasa Mohr while in one of Dr. Bishop’s children’s literature classes, but I never read about who Mohr is and how she came to writing until now. I was inspired by her story. Ms. Mohr had a successful career as an artist before deciding to write her first novel, Nilda, a series of vignettes. I think I was inspired by her confidence. Someone asked her to write about growing up Puerto Rican in New York during the 40s and 50s and she said OK and produced award-winning work. Awesome.
